Make a weekend escape to Artscape Gibraltar Point.
Artscape Gibraltar Point, Toronto Island
Saturday, August 13th and Sunday, August 14, 2011
$15/day at door, 25/wknd. (plus ferry), camping passes sold out. All ages
If you didn't think those summertime day trips to Toronto Island could get any better, you obviously didn't consider dragging amps across the harbour. Luckily, our friends at Wavelength did.
While the event has come around before, I'm going to step out on a limb and say that this year's ALL CAPS! Island Festival is the most ambitious event that Wavelength Toronto has launched - and that's saying a lot, when you consider what the organization has done within the independent music scene over the past dozen years.
Aside from a stacked line-up featuring artists like DD/MM/YY, Julie Doiron, and Rich Aucoin, the two-day festival is complemented by what seem to be pretty promising art installations, film screenings, and even delicious, delicious barbecue. And, once you've satisfied all of your appetites, you can sleep it off under the stars as the festival introduces camping into the mix for the very first time (yes, you can actually see the stars from there, I'm told).
Take a look at the ALL CAPS! Island Festival website for all the details.
Update: Tickets now only available at door, and space is very limited, so act quick.
