Orchestral pop? Symphonic folk? How could Lost in the Trees NOT be my concert recommendation for the week? They're a tricky choice for my first instalment, though, because their soaring sound completely justifies how tough it is to classify the group, and I'm stuck describing their music with a blizzard of oxymorons like "epically serene" and other such ridiculousness that I'm really hesitant to write.
So let's forget words. Lost in the Trees is an act that needs to be seen for yourself, and for the pittance of 12 bucks a ticket (a rough match to the TTC's next fare hike), there's no reason not to rush over to The Drake Underground on Monday and join the crowd to hear the haunting work that's a perfect fit for such an intimate venue.
And besides, can you think of a better place than a dark basement to hole up during this heatwave?
