Vancouver-based Said The Whale was in Toronto recently playing to a sold-out, all-ages crowd at The Great Hall.
It is both wonderful and satisfying getting to see this band gain fans over the years; people, who like me, probably started listening because one song caught their attention and then discovered a wealth of amazing songwriting waiting for them in their back catalogue. Their new album "Little Mountain" is their second full-length effort and the way in which the songs are played in concert just shows how far this amazing Canadian band has come.
Opening the night was Boxer The Horse, another band that has just released a new album. They were incredibly tight on stage and their music reminded me of Pavement, The Strokes, and The Kinks. Really excellent material with good delivery make this band an easy pick for a bands-to-watch list.
