At a time when modern technology allows the many visual and audio elements of art to be perfected to the highest of qualities, there remains to be a number of bands that strive for just the opposite – raw and gritty recordings and performances of a lower fidelity.
The four bands that performed at The Central last Thursday night embody just that. The surf-coated pop of openers Teen Violence and the loose, bright rock and roll of Love Banshee paved a perfect path for headliners Elk to take the stage. The garage pop band, based out of Toronto and St. Catharines, shared tracks from their newest record Balm Beach. Sam Coffee and The Iron Lungs then wrapped up the night with the most informal set, brewed from a variety of country and rock influences.
