Move over, Charlie Sheen, because Said The Whale are about to redefine the term "winning".
The Vancouver indie rockers are the subject in a new music documentary airing on CBC (only in British Columbia) on Saturday, July 23 titled Winning America: The Story of A Canadian Band. Trying To Make It In The States. Directed by CBC Radio 3's Brent Hodge and Thomas Buchan, it outlines both the hardships and success the band faced when travelling to Austin, Texas for the SXSW Music Festival this year.
The Juno winners for "Best New Group" had quite the bumpy ride down South, which perhaps in the end made for great film. From getting their gear stolen, to getting ambushed with a bottle of mustard, the band demonstrate they can take on anything and America is one of 'em. While it's not always easy breaking out in the States, this documentary will hopefully be a testament to how far hard work and talent can go.
The documentary will air on CBC TV (B.C.) at 7:00pm PST, but fans in other provinces can rest assured as it may be released online or on DVD in the near future.
