As mentioned before on Sticky, the NXNE Festival is from June 14 – June 20 will feature 40 music related films, some of which are Canadian premieres.
One highly anticipated documentary is Search And Destroy: Iggy Pop and The Stooges’ Raw Power. It’s all about the making of their most noted album, Raw Power. It will surely be a crowd pleaser and a great segue into Iggy Pop’s free performance at Yonge-Dundas Square on June 19.
The publicity for Iggy Pop doesn’t stop there. He’s also featured in another film, Suck, playing at the festival. The vampire spoof first premiered at the Toronto International Film Fest in 2009 but has a special screening this year at NXNE. Other cameos in the film include Henry Rollins, Alice Cooper, and Moby.
If indie rock is more your genre, there’s a film for you too: This Movie Is Broken will have its Canadian premiere at NXNE. Director Bruce McDonald tells the tale of love, sex, and friendship while concert footage of Broken Social Scene is spread throughout. Think of it like a Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist but with a better soundtrack.
We’re The Weakerthans, We’re from Winnipeg is another feature length documentary about the punk and folk infused band on tour in Canada. One bus, four guys, 25 cities, and hopefully a whole lot of sing-alongs from the audience.
There’s even more films worth checking out, this is just a little taste of what the festival has to offer this year.
