MUSI Artist Development officially launched last Friday at the Horseshoe Tavern and with four amazing bands on the bill, it was definitely night to remember. Founded by the gorgeous and passionate Heather Kelly, MUSI's mission is to help musicians achieve their artistic goals through a three-phase model. The year 2012 looks to be very ambitious for MUSI, and with such a packed house at the 'Shoe, us music aficionados are all excited for what's to come.

Sound of Lions

Sound of Lions opened the night with their hip-hop/soul/rock presentation. The five-piece outfit from Ottawa performed songs off their melodious debut, 11:44. Front woman Whitney Delion sparkled on stage, no thanks to her glossy vocals. Her lyrical fragility certainly meshed well with Christian's powerful rap delivery. The Sound of Lions is a sound you just might want to hear more of.

Jane's Party

Jane's Party are always a sure bet on stage. Since their formation a couple of years ago, the four Toronto gents have proven they're worthy of our attention with their natural charisma and contagious pop melodies. Since the release of their 5-track EP late last year, Zach, Jeff, Tom and Devon have only gotten better with live performances. "What You Wish For (Doesn't Always Come True)" is one of my favourite songs to hear live. Their love for the contemporary and their lust for the classics will give them the mass appeal that they so well deserve.

Brett Caswell and the Marque Rose

Emerging singer-songwriter from Southern Ontario, Brett Caswell, has stolen a lot of hearts throughout the years including Heather Kelly's. She introduced his band, The Marquee Rose, as "the reason I got in this industry". Caswell has a knack for connecting with the audience, never letting us down with passionate performances off his sophomore effort A New Balance and his upcoming LP.

Tiny Danza

Topping off the ceremonious evening was eclectic group Tiny Danza. Like Sound of Lions, the sharp-looking quintet blend a variety of different genres into one delicious pot of gold. The winners of Indie Week 2011 wowed the crowd with songs off their new album You Could Have It All..., which is available for free on their website.
