While there were an abundance of great shows playing throughout the city, Sticky Magazine writer and self-proclaimed amateur photographer Natalia Buia parked it at the Rivoli. The second night of the festival proved to be a fascinating one; with these three bands of such high caliber playing, how could you go home feeling empty handed?

Imaginary Cities

Having just landed in Toronto hours ago, Winnipeg ensemble Imaginary Cities got the crowd warmed up at the Rivoli Thursday night. It was the same night the band would discover they had been long listed for the 2011 Polarize Music Prize. Marti Sarbit (lead vocals) has come a long way from playing in a soul cover band in her hometown to having just recently opened up for the Pixies on their reunion tour. Playing songs off their hit record Temporary Resident the band proved to the emerging crowd they're growing to be more like permanent residents in this music scene of ours.

Sweet Thing

If there's one thing Sweet Thing knows how to do it's charm a crowd. Throughout their half hour set, dozens of girls were flailing their arms in the air with adoration. Morgan Waters (bass) was quick on is feet with the comebacks when teasing Owen Carrier (lead vocals) about his broken toe. The lead singer managed to pull through and give a show-stopping, heart-melting performance when singing their most popular tunes like "Change of Seasons" and "Dance Mother". Normally, the band would throw in an alluring cover song but instead, they winded down with the acoustic "Permanent Honeymoon" that had all 5 members (including drummer Tyler Kyte) singing beautiful harmonies at the front of the stage.

Bruce Peninsula

Watching the headliners, Bruce Peninsula, close out the night at the Rivoli was a near religious experience. After many road bumps, the progressive-folk band has bounced back. This NXNE performance marked the first appearance for Neil Haverty (vocals, guitar) after undergoing treatment for Leukemia. The entire band stomped, swayed and sang with relentless talent, showcasing songs that will be on their upcoming album slated for a September release. They closed their joyous set with "Stealroller" and "Crabapples".
