I finally understood what Robert Smith was talking about when singing "It's Friday, I'm in love..." It was Friday and I fell in love — with Amos the Transparent.

Amos the Transparent

Since this was the first time seeing Amos The Transparent live for me, I was taken back by their beautifully orchestrated melodies and camaraderie on stage. As it stands, everyone at Sticky Magazine is in love with the band. I don’t think Pete’s ever missed a show. The honest lyrics penned by Jonathan Chandler (guitar, vocals) escaped the mouths of many at the Horseshoe, especially during newer songs like “Lemons” and old gems like “The Stale Scent of Old Beer”. What made this show a success is the stunning rearrangement of some old songs, giving fans of Amos a different taste of just how talented the college radio friendly band really is. Chandler even seduced the crowd to keep on showing love, shouting: “sing along, you’re all a part of Amos the Transparent now!” Of all the bands playing a show that Friday night, it was damn great to be a part of this one specifically. Even for only half an hour.

Zeus

Zeus has been a hot commodity in the music scene for over a year now, since the release of Sounds Like Zeus and at the Horseshoe, they continue to sound supreme. With their and cool-as-a-cucumber stage presence and niche for penning clever rock-pop songs, they left everyone in the packed venue week in the knees. The quartet quickly got all the attention they deserved once they got into “How Does It Feel” which everyone was most familiar with – who could forget that little Nissan commercial? Their songs certainly take a different form once they are played live. The band, known to play musical chairs throughout sets, show extreme talent and diversity, which can really take them far. Can’t wait to see what the new year brings for both these delightful homegrown talents.
