High energy sets from We Are Scientists and The Roseville Band kept us going into the early morning hours.

We Are Scientists

Known for their high energy shows, witty stage banter, and a loyal fan-base We are Scientists were one of the "must-see", buzz-bands this NXNE. The group of fans that were bouncing and cheering at the front of the stage was a clear indication of the bands long-term success. Though filling Lee’s Place doesn’t compare to the large scale crowds they draw in the UK, their recent signing with Dine Alone Records indicates that they are looking to grow their fan base in Canada. It shouldn't be difficult to do so considering they have developed a perfect formula of cheerful, danceable melodies with a balanced mixture of pop-punk and Britpop influence.

The simplicity of their set-up is also something to be noted. With band sizes and the instrument to band member ratio growing it is nice to see three guys get on stage with one instrument each – one guitar, one bass and one drum kit – and just rock out.

The Roseville Band

The Roseville Band made the most of their long flight from Wales by playing an impressive five NXNE sets. This band was one of those pleasant surprises we discovered last year and judging from the excitement in the crowd this was also true for many people this time around. The momentum and energy in the audience grew throughout the band's set. Starting the set with the catchy "Temper", the title track from their current album, it was the perfect build-up to their high energy set as it allowed us to hear the full scale of lead singer, Andy Jones', voice. Though strong musicianship is one of the key elements of this band's catchy sound, it is Andy's unique voice that captures your attention and leaves you wanting more.
